US Ambassador To India Meets Defence Minister Rajnath Singh To Discuss Defence Ties

On Monday, the United States Ambassador to India, Ken Juster paid a courtesy call on the newly-elected Defence Minister Rajnath in New Delhi. They held a discussion on defence ties between Washington and New Delhi.

Washington has agreed to increase its defence trade relationship with New Delhi and fight for a border security partnership in Indo-Pacific region. Besides, a legislation was moved in the United States House of Representative, objected to bringing New Delhi on par with US “closest allies and partners”.

On April 8, the HR 2132 Bill was raised in the House by Congressman Joe Wilson for making “appropriate modifications” in the United States Armed Controls Export Act for the grounds.

The legislation asked for a joint assessment to be organized by the Secretary of Defence and the US Secretary of State “of the extent to which India possesses capabilities to support and carry out military operations of mutual interest to the United States and India.”

It further  calls for an evaluation of “the defence export control regulations and policies that need appropriate modification, in recognition of India”s capabilities and its status as a major defence partner.”
