Mamata Banerjee Hits Out At PM Modi, “Super Emergency Prevailed In India”
On Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the centre, describe his regime as a “Super Emergency”. She also urged the countrymen to protect its democracy in a message that comes as TMC and BJP trade reported of provoking clashes and violence in the state.
June 25 marks as ex-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declares the ‘State of emergency’ in the nation for a period of 21 months from 1975 to 1977.
Therefore, on the occasion of the 44th Anniversary of the 1975 Emergency, CM Banerjee tweets; “Today is the anniversary of the #Emergency declared in 1975. For the last five years, the country went through a ‘Super Emergency’. We must learn our lessons from history and fight to safeguard the democratic institutions in the country.”
Mamata Banrjee is a fierce critic of PM Modi and BJP, opted to avoid both Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony as the Prime Minister of India on May 30, and June 15’s Niti Aayog meet, charges the centre of causing riots to eliminate her government as she was strong probing EVMs “irregularities” during the recently-concluded Lok Sabha Elections, in which the BJP secured 18-seats out of 42-seats from the state.
She further hits at BJP government with other charges, accused them of trying to “turn Bengal into Gujarat” and urges the people of the state to move together to protect the culture of West Bengal.
CM Banerjee had further charged the BJP of “mixing religion with politics” after BJP supporters confronted TMC leaders – including the TMC supremo – with “Jai Shri Ram” slogans after the BJP made inroads in 2019 Elections in West Bengal.
As the two political parties battle to assert themselves before the Assembly Elections in 2021, BJP has complained of law and order breakdown. A BJP leader Mukul Roy wrote to the newly-appointed Home Minister Amit Shah requested him to take action to safeguard the lives of people as “anarchy and chaos” imposed in the state.
