Lawmakers Should Work To Inspire People, President Ram Nath Kovind

On Thursday, President Ram Nath Kovind has advised the Parliamentarians to grant priority to their duties as public representatives so that people can seek inspiration to release their duties as citizens.

While addressing a joint sitting of both Houses of the Parliament in the historic Central Hall, President Kovind urges all lawmakers to dedicate themselves to the work of building a “New India” and fulfill duties with utmost sincerity over the next 5-years.

“My advice to all MPs is that you should always remember the fundamental mantra of Gandhiji. He had said that every decision of ours should be guided by its impact on the poorest and the weakest person in the society,” said the President of India, in his customary address after the formation of the 17th Lok Sabha.

He continued that all Parliamentarians will have to grant priority to their duties as representative of public and also as a responsible citizen of the nation. “Only then will we be able to inspire countrymen to discharge their duties as citizens,” added President Kovind.

The President said that lawmakers should always remember that the voters, keeping aside all the work and overcome the difficulties, he went to the polling station to cast vote and show his responsibility towards the nation.

President Kovind said, “Your priority should be to fulfil his aspirations.”

He continued that the Constitution offers guidance for ensuring economic, social, political justice, and securing equality and liberty for all citizens, and promote fraternity among all, assures the dignity of the individual.

“I believe that you all members of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, as parliamentarians, will make invaluable contributions in achieving the ideals of the Constitution while discharging your duties. In this way, you will contribute effectively in ushering in a New India,” said President Kovind.

He further said that 2019 marks 70-years adoption of the Indian Constitution and as a Member of Parliament, members have taken oath to discharge duties with allegiance and true faith to the Constitution of India.

“The Constitution is paramount to all of us. The chief architect of our Constitution Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar had said ‘we must hold fast to constitutional methods of achieving our social and economic objectives’,” added President Kovind.
