India Greets ASEAN’s Outlook On Indo-Pacific Region

Embracing ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, India said that it sees key elements of convergence with its own view of the region, on Wednesday.

On Sunday, the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) has officially disclosed its outlook for the Indo-Pacific region, considers the Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific regions not as adjacent territorial spaces but as a closely interconnected and integrated region.

In its outlook, the regional grouping further saw the Indo-Pacific region of cooperation and dialogue instead of conflict, besides predicting prosperity and development for all.

While replying to a question on the country’s concept on the ASEAN Outlook declared on June 24, External Affairs Ministry’s spokesman Raveesh Kumar said, “Given our Prime Minister’s enunciation at the Shangri-La Dialogue in June 2018 of a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific, of which India is an important part, we warmly welcome ASEAN’s decision to articulate its own views of the concept.”

“While we are studying the ASEAN perspective closely, we see important elements of convergence with our own views, especially from the standpoint of principles, as well as its approach and ASEAN’s listing of areas of cooperation. We look forward to exchanging views on the Indo-Pacific with our ASEAN Partners,” added Mr. Kumar.
