“Digital India Has Empowered People, Reduced Corruption”, Claims PM Modi


Today, on the 4th anniversary of “Digital India”, the flagship program of BJP government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claims that the initiative has empowered people, improved public service, and reduced corruption to benefit the poor. 

PM Modi tweets, “On this day, 4 years ago Digital India was launched, to leverage the power of technology and make technology more accessible. Digital India has empowered people, significantly reduced corruption and improved public service delivery to benefit the poor #DigitalIndiaNewIndia.”

The Prime Minister said in another Twitter post that “the Digital India initiative is a people’s movement, powered by people’s strength and their efforts to learn as well as innovate. I salute all those assiduously working to strengthen Digital India and wish them the very best for their future efforts.”

“Digital India” program was introduced on July 1, 2015, by the center-ruling Government if India with the object to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

Digital India is the main point of PM Modi’s “New India” push, is focused on three key visions- Digital Infrastructure as a Utility to Every Citizen, Services and Government on Demand, and Digital Empowerment of Citizens.

Union  Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad claims that the government’s flagship programmed is at present finding global resonance. 

Mr. Prasad tweets, “PM Narendra Modi had launched Digital India on July 1, 2015. Success of Digital India is an inspiring story of inclusion, transformation, growth and empowerment through digital technologies, which is now finding global resonance.”

Highlighting the success of “Digital India”, Mr. Prasad continued that over 3.65 lakh common service have been opened by centre and 123 crore Aadhaar Cards were also generated. 

He further informed that currently there are over 2.39 crore users of Digilocker, which is basically an online space to store documents. 

Ravi Shankar Prasad has also praised BHIM-UPI, which is a unified payments interface, claims it is a “unique fintech innovation” of the nation that has transformed the digital payment ecosystem. “It made possible to make payments using a simple and easy to use mobile app,” he added. 

Mr. Prasad also said that Rs. 7.45 lakh crore amount has been transferred through total Direct Benefit Transfer.
